Watford is first mentioned in an Anglo Saxon charter of 1007. It does not get a mention by name in the Domesday Book, but was included in the entry for the then more important settlement of "Cashio" which stood half a mile away at the crossroads of the St Albans road and Hempstead road near the modern Town Hall.
Watfords location helped it to grow, since as well as trade along this north-south through route it possessed good communications into the vale of St Albans to the east and into the Chiltern Hills along the valley of the River Chess to the west. In 1100 Henry I granted a charter to Watford to hold a weekly market. The parish church of St Mary the Virgin was built in 1230 on the same site as an earlier Saxon church, along with stalls for a weekly market. The town grew modestly, assisted by travellers passing through to Berkhamsted Castle and the royal palace at Kings Langley, with the main developments being the 17th century houses of Cassiobury and The Grove, which were expanded and developed throughout the following centuries. Cassiobury became the family seat of the Earls of Essex, and The Grove the seat of the Earls of Clarendon.
A chimney liner essentially is a flue lining that is set into a chimney. The liner itself could be made of clay, ceramic, or a metal conduit installed inside the chimney and is intended to contain the combustion products, direct them to the outside atmosphere, and protect the chimney walls from heat and corrosion.
Our prices are based on the property location and number of chimneys that need lining. Please contact us for a no obligation quote. As Watford is not far from our head office, jobs here will not attract a higher quote.
After Ansell Chimneys have fitted your chimney with a new liner, we carry out a quick, simple but effective test to ensure there is the correct draw and no smoke or other pollutants can flow back into your living space. This is quite simply a match-like device that smokes profusely when burnt and is placed just above the site of the fire. If the smoke is neatly drawn up the chimney, the fire will be safe to use.
So if you live in Watford and need a new chimney liner, why not call or email Ansell Chimneys and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
