Chimney Sweeps in Northwood

Until you have been without a fire during those long, dark winter evenings, you probably will not appreciate just how important it is to have a functioning and safe chimney.

Sure, most houses these days have central heating, but with the prices of gas becoming exceedingly high, having a warming open fire or solid fuel stove is becoming the norm again.

Not only do real fires look fantastic, but they also heat a room like no other method. Since humans learnt how to make fire, we have been warmed and fascinated by the naked flame. Even the sight of a real fire seems to make you feel warmer and offers a genuine feel-good factor.

Gas central heating can really dry out the air and when combined with fitted carpets, play havoc with people with asthma and other kinds of allergies. In fact, an asthma specialist nurse once stated that gas central heating and fitted carpets were a genuine nightmare for asthma sufferers and those with dust allergies.

Is it surprising that more and more people are going back to real fires in their homes?

However, a real fire will require a clean, maintained chimney to remain effective and safe. Scheduling an annual chimney sweep could not be easier with Ansell Chimneys. A pre booked annual visit from us not only keeps your fire or stove ready to keep you warm during the colder months, but it also offers you total peace of mind, in knowing your chimney is safe and free from dangerous obstructions or creosote build-up.

A little about Northwood

Northwood is an elevated residential area in the London Borough of Hillingdon adjoining Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve, which contains the Ruislip Lido and shares a northern border with the county of Hertfordshire.

Northwoods population was recorded as 11,068 in 2008, by the Office for National Statistics and its southeastern neighbourhood Northwood Hills had a population of 10,833.

Northwood was used for location filming of the BBC TV sitcom series The Good Life during the 1970s. The popular series starred Penelope Keith, Paul Eddington, Richard Briers, and Felicity Kendall. The actual setting for the series was the town of Surbiton in Southwest London, near the border of Surrey.

Landmarks in Northwood

Northwood Grange

Northwood Grange incorporates a 15th century block with a crown post roof and a cross wing of the same date. This is now the Hall School in Northwood. This area has a number of catteries to cater for the local feline population.

London School of Theology

The London School of Theology is an English interdenominational evangelical theological college based in Northwood within the London Borough of Hillingdon. The London School of Theology is the largest evangelical theological college in Europe and claims to have one of the best specialist theological libraries in the United Kingdom.

Northwood Hills tube station

Northwood Hills tube station opened to the public on 13 November 1933. There was a competition for the name and Northwood Hills, suggested by a woman from North Harrow was the winning entry. The area is lower than Northwood.

Early developments in Northwood

In the Domesday Book of 1086, the Northwood-embracing parish of Ruislip had immense woodland, sufficient to support one parish with 1,500 pigs per year, and a park for wild beasts.

The hamlet of Northwood grew up along the north side of the Rickmansworth-Pinner Road which passes across the north-east of the parish. Apart from this road and internal networks in areas of scattered settlement to the east and west, Ruislip had only three ancient roads of any importance of which Ducks Hill Road was the only one in the Northwood hamlet. This followed the course of the modern road from its junction with the Rickmansworth Road in the northwest corner of the parish. It then ran south through Ruislip village as Bury Street and continued through the open fields as Down Barns Road to West End in Northolt.

Northwood had a manorial grange in 1248, which may have occupied the site of the later Northwood Grange. The monks of the Bec Abbey who lived at Manor Farm in Ruislip in the eleventh century owned this grange. A few cottages at Northwood are mentioned in the 1565 national survey. Two hundred years later the shape of the hamlet, composed of a few farms and dwellings scattered along the Rickmansworth Road, had altered little except for the addition of Holy Trinity church. Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury had 568 acres of Ruislip cleared of forest.

Robert Cecil went on to own Hatfield House after King James took his Theobald's home in Hertford as he thought the Old Place in Hatfield was too old.

Enjoy a warm winter: book a chimney sweep today

Do not wait until the weather takes a turn for the worse, book a chimney sweep now to avoid waiting to fire up your stove.

Please remember that a dirty or blocked chimney is a genuine danger. Not only can a build up of creosote cause a chimney fire but should there be a blockage that prevents the chimney from drawing correctly, toxic fumes can quickly build up in your home, putting everyone in danger. By booking a chimney sweep, you will remain warm and safe this winter.
