After the Norman conquest, Robert, Count of Mortain, the elder half brother of William the Conqueror, was granted lands associated with Berkhamsted Castle which included Hemel Hempstead. The estates passed through several hands over the next few centuries including Thomas Becket in 1162. In 1290 John of Englands grandson, the Earl of Cornwall, gave the manor to the religious order of the Bonhommes when he endowed the monastery at Ashridge. The town remained part of the monasterys estates until the Reformation and break up of Ashridge in 1539. In that same year, the town was granted a royal charter by Henry VIII to become a bailiwick with the right to hold a Thursday market and a fair on Corpus Christi Day. The first bailiff of Hemel Hempstead was William Stephyns. Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn are reputed to have stayed in the town at this time.
A chimney liner essentially is a flue lining that is set into a chimney. The liner itself could be made of clay, ceramic, or a metal conduit installed inside the chimney and is intended to contain the combustion products, direct them to the outside atmosphere, and protect the chimney walls from heat and corrosion.
Our prices are based on the property location and number of chimneys that need lining. Please contact us for a no obligation quote. As Hemel Hempstead is not far from our head office, jobs here will not attract a higher quote.
After Ansell Chimneys have fitted your chimney with a new liner, we carry out a quick, simple but effective test to ensure there is the correct draw and no smoke or other pollutants can flow back into your living space. This is quite simply a match-like device that smokes profusely when burnt and is placed just above the site of the fire. If the smoke is neatly drawn up the chimney, the fire will be safe to use.
So if you live in Hemel Hempstead and need a new chimney liner, why not call or email Ansell Chimneys and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
